Overview
Comprehensive management of varicella zoster virus infections including acute chickenpox in children and adults, herpes zoster (shingles), and post-herpetic neuralgia. We provide antiviral therapy (acyclovir, valacyclovir, famciclovir) to reduce severity and duration. Pain management includes topical agents, oral analgesics, and neuropathic pain medications. Prevention of secondary bacterial infection through proper wound care and topical antibiotics is essential. For shingles, early antiviral intervention within 72 hours of rash onset significantly improves outcomes. Post-herpetic neuralgia is addressed with gabapentin, pregabalin, topical lidocaine, and nerve blocks if needed. Vaccination recommendations are provided for immunocompromised patients.
