Overview

Expert management of lichen planus, an inflammatory autoimmune condition affecting skin, nails, hair, and mucous membranes. Cutaneous lichen planus presents as purple, polygonal papules with characteristic striae. Oral lichen planus causes white lace-like patterns and oral erosions. We investigate for associated systemic diseases, medications, and hepatitis C. Treatment includes topical and systemic corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, oral retinoids, and phototherapy for extensive disease. Nail involvement requires prolonged treatment. Oral lichen planus management includes oral rinses, topical medications, and management of erosive forms. We monitor for potential malignant transformation of oral lesions. Our goal is symptom control and disease remission.
